Lonely Passage SRQ was created to honor unclaimed individuals in Sarasota County with dignity, remembrance, and compassionate presence. When no family or loved ones are there to witness a final ceremony, our community steps forward to ensure that no one is forgotten.
Our Story
Inspired by a Larger Movement
Led by Harper Gratton, Lonely Passage SRQ grows from the belief that every life deserves to be acknowledged. The work is inspired by the original Lonely Passage effort in Lexington, Kentucky, and by similar programs in Europe that bring witness, respect, and humanity to those who might otherwise be laid to rest alone.
Our role is simple but meaningful: to show up, read names, share a few words, and create a moment of remembrance. In those quiet acts, we affirm that each person mattered and that their passing deserves care.
